Dinner & A Movie
June 20th & 21st, 2020
Movies and food have the power to enchant us and bring us together. What better way to spend a day than to combine the two?
In Dinner and a Movie, we will be watching a classic film, cooking food from the film and sitting down together with our creations (and a glass of wine!) to converse about the film and share our ideas.
Join us for one or both days! This relaxed day and evening of food and fun is perfect for everyone - people stuck at home on their own, couples, or even groups of friends from their respective houses!
The day will begin with introductions, followed by watching the selected film. After the film we will set up to cook dishes from the movie with Claude as master chef and Susan as sous chef. During the cooking we will also be treated with a pop in from a sommelier to discuss wine pairings to accompany the delicious food we are making as well as discussions on how to set and decorate the table to heighten the experience and encourage a cozy, intimate and shared space.
Finally we get to eat together and discuss and analyse the film and food, including techniques and broader meaning, as well as our own reactions and what it brought up for us in the moment.
Time: 1 pm to 8 pm EST (approximate end time)
Fees: $30 per person per day. $50 for couples or housemates sharing a space. If attending both days: $50 for an individual, $80 for couples/housemates.
Please note: Participants will also need to purchase ingredients to cook with prior to the retreat, which is not included in the fees above. A list of ingredients needed will be emailed upon signing up. Questions? Email us at susan.lambert76@gmail.com.
Saturday June 20th: Fried Green Tomatoes
Troubled housewife Evelyn Counch, whose marriage is in tatters, forms an unlikely friendship with an old lady named Ninny Threadgoode. Ninny proceeds to tell her the story of Idgie from 1920s Alabama, a tale which inspires Evelyn to take hold of her life.
After the movie we’ll be cooking a selection straight out of the Whistlestop Cafe cookbook with Down Home Crab Cakes, Pork Chops with Apples and Sweet Potatoes and Rice Pudding for dessert!
Join us for Fried Green Tomatoes! Secret’s in the sauce…
Sunday June 21st: Big Night
“To eat good food is to be close to God.”
Two Italian brothers, a chef and a businessman, must do whatever it takes to impress a famous American-Italian singer and save their failing restaurant.
After the movie we’ll be cooking classic Italian dishes that will make you feel like you’ve stepped into Paradise itself, including Salad of Endive, Pancetta, Poached Egg and Sherry Vinaigrette, Classic Italian Minestrone and Seafood Risotto.
Join us for Big Night! Your table is waiting…
